WHAT WAS THE MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT IN YOUR MOTORSPORT CAREER?

I have several highlights here:

  • The most memorable moment was, of course, becoming the DTM Champion 2014
  • DTM Champion 2016 because it was a confirmation that I had done it again
  • My most emotional victory was certainly winning the home race at the Norisring in 2018
  • Winning the kick-off race of the class-1-era at Hockenheim in 2019 together with BMW and Schaeffler was also a special event

circuit overview

The race circuit was founded as Österreichring and hosted the Austrian Grand Prix for 18 consecutive years, from 1970 to 1987. It was later shortened, rebuilt, and renamed the A1-Ring, and it hosted the Austrian Grand Prix again from 1997 to 2003. When Formula One outgrew the circuit, a plan was drawn up to extend the layout. Parts of the circuit, including the pits and main grandstand, were demolished. Still, construction work was stopped, and the circuit remained unusable for several years before it was purchased by Red Bull's Dietrich Mateschitz and rebuilt. The Red Bull Ring was renamed, and the track was reopened on 15 May 2011.

The race was founded by Road Atlanta owner Don Panoz and was first run on October 10, 1998, as part of the IMSA season. The 1999 edition was one of the original events of the American Le Mans Series. The 2010 and 2011 editions were also part of the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup, but the 2012 race for the brand-new World Endurance Championship was controversially dropped in favor of Bahrain.
