Mixed feelings on Sunday at the Nürburgring

After finishing third to reach the podium on Saturday, Marco Wittmann was unable to spray champagne for a second time on Sunday. In Sunday’s race, the tenth event of the 2020 DTM season, he finished in ninth place with his Schaeffler BMW M4 DTM.

The BMW Team RMG driver completed the morning’s qualifying session in tenth position. The race took place in good, sunny conditions once again but he fell back a few positions at the start. However, Wittmann gave a battling display to work his way back up, taking the chequered flag in ninth place. That saw him score another two points.

Marco Wittmann (#11 Schaeffler BMW M4 DTM, BMW Team RMG, Grid: 10th, Race: 9th, Drivers’ standings: 8th, 61 points):
“It is a bit disappointing, as we had problems with the clutch throughout the weekend. We didn’t replace it between yesterday and today, which led to identical problems at the start. In general, it is difficult to regain three positions if you lose them right at the start. In the end, we were able to battle back pretty well but we could have done more if we’d started better, as our pace was generally OK.”

There’s no time to take a breath for Wittmann. As soon as next weekend, the second part of his BMW Team RMG’s ‘home game’ continues. While this time, the races were held on the longer Grand Prix Circuit, the coming sixth round of the 2020 DTM season will be contested on the short version of the Nürburgring.
