A Saturday to forget

Saturday’s race at TT Circuit Assen was a very sobering one for Marco Wittmann. After being spun by WRT driver Fabio Scherer, he finished in 14th place in his Schaeffler BMW M4 DTM.

Qualifying in the morning didn’t result in the desired starting position for the race. From tenth on the grid, Wittmann started his most difficult race of the season. He was spun by Scherer on lap five, which pushed him to the back of the field and affected the rest of the race. Despite a solid pit stop, Wittmann was unable to make up any further positions and he finished the race in 14th.

Marco Wittmann (#11 Schaeffler BMW M4 DTM, BMW Team RMG, Grid: 10th, Race: 14th, Driver’s standings: 8th, 40 points):

“After spinning in the opening phase my race was over. My rear wing was damaged, and it was more like I was rolling around the track. It was very disappointing, but in general there wasn’t a lot here for BMW today. Now we need to see what we can do better for tomorrow.”

In the upcoming race at Assen on Sunday Wittmann will go on full attack again.
