A difficult Sunday

Unfortunately, Sunday’s race at the Lausitzring did not produce the successful result Marco Wittmann had hoped for. In the end, he finished ninth in his Schaeffler BMW M4 DTM.

At least the two-time DTM champion scored two points. That was the best he could do, despite a fast pit stop. Nonetheless, his BMW Team RMG had plenty of reason to celebrate as his team-mates Lucas Auer and Timo Glock finished first and second to secure the first one-two result for BMW.

Marco Wittmann (#11 Schaeffler BMW M4 DTM, BMW Team RMG, Grid: 6th, Race: 9th, Drivers’ standings: 6th, 40 points):

“I think that we went with the wrong strategy in the end. We stopped too late. All my fellow drivers ahead of me pitted earlier and came out earlier too. It is then just impossible to make up this ground. It is disappointing really, as we were actually doing well. Congratulations to Lucas and Timo!”

In two weeks, Wittmann will be back in action at the fourth event of the season in Assen, Netherlands.
