Sunday’s race at the Lausitzring ended with sixth place for Marco Wittmann and his Schaeffler BMW M4 DTM. This made the BMW Team RMG driver once again the highest-placed BMW driver.
In the morning’s qualifying, Wittmann also finished sixth. His hope for a strong start, similar to the one one Saturday when he had catapulted to third place, was not fulfilled. Instead, he initially lost two positions, but he them made them up again over the course of the 34 laps.
“That was the best we could do today”, said Wittmann. “It is frustrating to have to say that from sixth place, but that is how it is. The championship situation is clear, as our competitors keep scoring points. I was a bit too aggressive at the start today and that wheelspin cost me a few places. However, we managed to battle back up to sixth place by the end.”
In the drivers‘ championship Wittmann remains in third place. The season continues with the home round for Wittmann’s team, BMW Team RMG, from 13th to 15th September at the Nürburgring.
