After his victory at the opening round of this season’s VLN Endurance Championship, Marco Wittmann produced another good display on his second appearance of 2019 in the ‘Green Hell’, finishing sixth at the weekend. This time, the two-time DTM champion was sharing the cockpit of the #99 BMW M6 GT3, run by the ROWE Racing team, with John Edwards and Jesse Krohn.
Having seen the opening race delayed due to fog, and race two of the VLN cancelled completely, the weather once again put the cat among the pigeons. Heavy rain made for extremely difficult conditions – but that could not stop Wittmann and his team-mates.
As the track started to dry towards the end of the race, the team from St. Ingbert switched to slicks with three laps remaining. A quick stop allowed them to leapfrog ahead of one car into sixth place and not far off the fifth-placed car.
Wittmann is back in action this weekend, as the Hockenheimring hosts the opening round of the new DTM season.
