Battling performance goes unrewarded in the Lausitz region

A third-place finish in Hockenheim was great motivation for Marco Wittmann as he travelled to the Lausitzring. However, he was not able to score any points there on what was a difficult Saturday for BMW.

Starting from eleventh position, he was planning to reel in his competitors in his Red Bull BMW M4 DTM – after all, the BMW Team RMG driver had already shown what was possible in Hockenheim. However, his fighting spirit went unrewarded this time: Wittmann gave his all for 43 laps but had to be content with finishing in 13th place. This result reflects the difficulties experienced by most of the BMW drivers. Maxime Martin was the only one of Wittmann’s brand team-mates to record a points finish.

“It was a very disappointing race,” said Wittmann. “Our pace wasn’t good enough. This affected all the BMW drivers except Maxime, who was able to hold on to fourth place. The others were just better than me today, they had less tyre wear and a better pace. Of course it is annoying that we didn’t finish in the points and it was a difficult day in general for BMW. Now we have to make sure that we improve tomorrow.”

The Sunday race day at the Lausitzring begins with the free practice session in the morning. Wittmann will compete in the fourth qualifying of the season at 11:30. He will then be chasing the points in Sunday’s race, which is scheduled to start at 15:18.
