After 2014, Marco Wittmann was crowned champion for the second time in his four-year career in the DTM. Fourth place in the final race of the season handed the BMW Team RMG driver the championship.
„What a feeling! Being crowned DTM Champion for the second time in four years is incredible,“ he said. „It was a difficult season, but now the emotions are indescribable. We fought right down to the wire and had no idea that we would finish at the top before the season started. We’ve done it now. Crazy.”
The final race was a thriller. Wittmann and Mortara started side by side in the deciding race. Both led the race, but in the end it was Mortara who was ahead. After the pit stops Wittmann dropped down the field, but was able to quickly work his way back up into fourth. Enough to be crowned champion. He finished cool and serene, just like he did throughout the season. His second victory after 2014 was perfect.
„Massive thanks go to my team, BMW Motorsport and everyone involved. And I have huge respect for Edoardo Mortara. He had a great season. In the end we did enough. Now it’s time to celebrate.“ – Marco, you earned it!
