It was a great weekend for Marco Wittmann: the BMW Team RMG driver also impressed in Sunday’s race at the „Circuit Park Zandvoort“ by the Dutch North Sea coast. By finishing fourth, he defended his overall lead in the Drivers’ Championship.

Wittmann had a nearly perfect race on Saturday when he drove his Red Bull BMW M4 DTM to second on the podium. On Sunday, Wittmann started seventh on the grid and worked his way up to fourth. With this result he scored 12 valuable points for the Drivers’ championship. He now currently leads with an advantage of seven points over this closest rival Jamie Green, Sunday’s race winner.

“I feel very positive about Sunday’s race, and the weekend in general. I think, in finishing second and fourth, we did as well as we possibly could have. We were obviously a little fortunate that our rivals had tyre issues on Sunday, but we are still very happy to take the points. I am still leading the Drivers’ Championship, but it remains extremely close and exciting,” Wittmann said.

Behind Wittmann, his team-mate, Timo Glock, and Tom Blomqvist also finished Sunday’s race in the points. After ten of the season’s 18 races BMW continues to lead the Manufacturers’ championship and in the team standings Wittmann’s BMW Team RMG returned to first position. A great basis for the coming races, which will be held at the Moscow Raceway in five weeks’ time.
