Highs and lows in Moscow: After second place in the race on Saturday, the reigning DTM champion crossed the finish line in seventh place in the race two of the weekend in Russia.
„Unfortunately I wasn’t able to improve on seventh place today,“ said Wittmann. „We were a bit out of sorts in qualifying, we got stuck in traffic with the second set of tyres. Otherwise we would have been able to fight for pole position. Then the race would have been different. Obviously, after the Spielberg weekend, we did much better in Moscow. So it was definitely worth coming to Russia.“
Wittmann bagged a lot of points in Moscow, in Saturday’s race in particular. He clocked the fastest lap in qualifying and claimed his first pole position of the 2015 DTM season – his fifth overall. After a good start, he was able to maintain his position at the head of the field for a long time. But shortly before the end, he lost the lead to Pascal Wehrlein. „I had a slow puncture towards the end of the race, as I found out later on,“ said Wittmann. „Without that problem, no doubt I would have been able to get more out of the race.“
After the round in Russia, Wittmann is sixth in the Drivers’ Championship with 75 Points.
